International Research Olympiad
The International Research Olympiad (IRO) is a progressive, global competition designed for high school students under 18 to sharpen research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills. Unlike traditional science Olympiads, the IRO tests real-world research-oriented abilities through a multi-stage format: Open Exam, Semifinals, and Finals, culminating in an in-person event at Cambridge, MA.
Eligibility Criteria for IRO
Open worldwide to students aged 13–18 who haven’t graduated from secondary school. No prior Olympiad experience is required.
How to apply for IRO
Register online for the Open Examination via the IRO official website (fee applies, though fee waivers may be available). Advanced rounds are free for qualifying participants.
