The HCGEC is an annual online essay competition hosted by The Harvard Crimson and Crimson Education. It offers high school students worldwide the chance to showcase their writing skills, engage in expert-led workshops, and compete for prestigious prizes, including internships and publication opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria for HCGEC: Harvard Crimson Global Essay Competition – Write, Compete, Shine

  • Open to students aged 13–18.

  • Must be currently enrolled in a secondary or high school at the time of the global competition in February–March 2026, or have graduated but not yet started university studies by September 2026.

  • Participants can only submit one essay in a single category.

How to apply for HCGEC: Harvard Crimson Global Essay Competition – Write, Compete, Shine

  • Register online during the Early Bird (October 1–December 15, 2025) or Regular (December 16, 2025–January 31, 2026) registration periods.

  • Pay the registration fee:

    • Early Bird: $15

    • Regular: $20

  • Choose one essay prompt from the available categories.

  • Write a maximum 500-word essay in Word document format.

  • Submit your essay by the respective deadline.
