The Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Scheme (MGSS) is an initiative by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, offering financial aid to eligible Nepali Class 11 students. Those selected receive NPR 24,000 annually for two years (Classes 11 and 12), subject to renewal based on academic progress and documentation.

Eligibility Criteria for MGSS

  • Must be a regular student of Class 11 in a recognized institution in Nepal.

  • Minimum 60% aggregate in Class 10.

  • Must be a Nepali citizen (proof required for self and parents).

  • Annual family income must be ≤ NPR 200,000.

  • Must not be receiving any other scholarship.

  • Special provisions exist for physically challenged students (certificate required).

How to apply for MGSS

  1. Complete the online application via the portal goischolarship.com.np during the application window.

  2. Upload the following notarized or attested documents:

    • Passport-sized photo

    • Citizenship certificate (self and parent)

    • SEE/Class 10 mark sheet

    • Certificate from school principal confirming Class 11 enrollment and no other scholarship

    • Income certificate issued by local authority

    • Disability certificate (if applicable)

  3. Submit before the deadline—late or incomplete applications are not accepted.
